In our society today it is becoming more and more common for men as young as 40 to experience an imbalance in their hormones. The symptoms can range from something as minor as a headache to issues such as prostate problems, mood instability, and other negative physical changes in the body.
Why has this become such a problem in the modern world? Frankly, this is a man-made hormonal imbalance, which is due to environmental contaminants and xenoestrogen-producing products such as plastics and pesticides. These contaminants are found in our food and water supplies and cause an imbalance of hormones in our bodies. In males, too much estrogen can lead to some or all of the following problems: Urinary problems, impotence, low sex drive, enlarged prostate, diabetes, depression, allergies, fatigue, increased risk of stroke, infertility, foggy thinking, rapid increase in weight, and osteoporosis.
What does this mean for men? It is important to balance out your hormones by reducing estrogen levels and increasing testosterone levels. Start by making some positive changes in your lifestyle by making changes in your diet and starting on an exercise routine. By changing the way you eat, you can start to turn your imbalance around naturally. Cruciferous vegetables have phytochemicals, which can lower bad estrogen and in turn reduce their negative impact on testosterone levels. Once you have begun to bind the estrogens in your body, you can also add more testosterone-producing foods to your diet such as raw oysters, avocados, asparagus, eggs, almonds and other nuts, bananas, as well as other foods rich in zinc. Ensuring that all of your fresh foods are organic will reduce the xenoestrogens that you continually reintroduce into your body. If it is not possible to only eat organic foods, then be sure to thoroughly wash all fruits and vegetables before eating them.
