When the weather is good, you might want to get out there and exercise, including by walking, running or jogging. In order to do this safely, however, you will need to make sure you have the right equipment. Obviously you will not be bringing weights or or other exercising equipment outside, but there is another piece of equipment you will need after all: running shoes!

Running shoes are so important because of the way your body works when you are running, jogging, or even just walking. An incredible amount of strain can be put on many of the joints in your body as a result of this exercise. In particular, when walking, you are putting nearly all the stress on your legs, which have to support the rest of your body, and the knee and ankle joints will feel extra pressure.  While the body is equipped to handle this, the stress is increased three-fold when you run. Partially, this is because of the “bounding” motion that you are ultimately making, which actually makes you airborne for very brief periods of time. As a result, your legs and joints feel more stress than they normally would even just from walking.

Regardless of whether you are walking or running, or compromising between the two with a nice jog, it is important to pick the right shoes for the job. Flip flops or other such shoes will obviously not work. Thankfully, there are a lot of running shoes specifically designed for the purpose of alleviating the stress on your body, and companies like Nike, Adidas, and others have invested large sums of money in to making shoes that are designed as ideally for the purpose as possible.

Some stores might even help you out in picking the right shoe by helping you find your running style, therefore helping you pick a shoe that will be ideal for your unique running style and needs.
