Technology for the Hearing Impaired

There are many ways that computers and electronics have made exercise and fitness more engaging and fun. One of the best ways that technology has changed fitness is to make fitness easier for the hearing impaired.

There are several at-home work out plans on DVD that have been designed by people who are hearing impaired for the hearing impaired. Rather than using vocal instruction, the fitness trainer on the screen will either sign or there will be subtitles put at the bottom of the screen for instruction. There are many different types of fitness DVDs that are offered for the hearing impaired— everything from intense cardio workouts to Pilates and yoga.

The internet also offers many workout plans. Many famous trainers have programs that are available online that can be catered to people with disabilities. These programs are great because the exercises are displayed through step-by-step instruction, usually using visuals. Using the computer as a tool in exercise is a great way to customize a program for any person, regardless of disability.

If you have taken a hearing test and have found that you are hearing impaired, it does not mean that you cannot workout at spas or gyms, as many of the pieces of cardio equipment at these facilities are interactive and provide both written and visual instructions that are easy to understand. Many programs on newer exercise equipment have options to save the information of the person using the machine; that way people are able to see if they are progressing with their workout.
